Vucic: We are staying on EU path

BELGRADE - It is important to remind ourselves today of the reasons why the EU was created, what its foundations are and what connects us, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Thursday evening, noting that the EU path was Serbia's strategic decision.

At a May 9 - Europe Day reception hosted by the head of the EU Delegation to Serbia, Vucic said the EU was the largest peace project in the history of the continent and that, for Serbia, preservation of peace and creating a future for young people was one of the most important things.

"I would like to thank our partners for helping us through investments, the EU is the largest investor," he said.

"Without the EU, there would be no projects - infrastructure projects, high-speed rail lines or school, education and scientific projects. And for that, I express huge gratitude both to EU states and the people in the EU who have helped Serbia," Vucic said.

It is important that we carry out reforms - in many areas, we are not behind the EU but there is still much to be done, he said.

"We believe we belong in Europe and we will stay on the European path - that is our strategic, permanent position that we will not change," Vucic said.
