BELGRADE- Serbia has officially become the 73rd non-regional member of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).

Serbian Finance Minister Sinisa Mali said this was big news for Serbia as the accession would give the country access to favourable loans for priority projects, the Finance Ministry said in a statement Thursday.

According to the statement, Serbia has officially completed all procedures and met all conditions for membership, passing a bill on approval of the AIIB Articles of Agreement and depositing the Instrument of Accession and the first capital installment with the bank.

This was confirmed by an August 15 resolution of the AIIB Board of Governors that also confirmed Serbia's membership, the statement said, recalling that Mali had sent an official request for membership in 2018.
