BELGRADE - Brazilian Ambassador to Belgrade Eduardo Botelho Barbosa says an acquisition of the pharmaceutical company Galenika is the first major investment in Serbia by a Brazilian company but that Brazil's goal is for it not to be the last because there is great potential for investing in Serbia.

Visiting the company on Tuesday, he said one of his embassy's main objectives was to "help to connect businesspeople from the two countries in the period to come," a Galenika statement said.

The Galenika management briefed the ambassador on the latest business successes resulting from investments by the company's new owner.

"Besides a rise of the Serbian market share, Galenika is also seeing a growth of sales in the region and we are planning further expansion to new markets on the global map. In addition, significant funds have been invested into digitalisation of operations as well as into overhauls of existing equipment and into new equipment," said Galenika Executive Director for Operational Affairs Ricardo Vian Marques.

Following a privatisation, Galenika has become a part of the Brazilian NC Group, one of Latin America's largest pharmaceutical companies.
