MOSCOW - Serbian Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Branislav Nedimovic on Wednesday said agricultural land under organic production - especially organic fruits and vegetables - had tripled in Serbia since the passage of a law on organic production in 2012.

Speaking at a forum on organic agriculture, held within the framework of Moscow's Golden Autumn agricultural fair, Nedimovic said the transition from commercial to organic production was difficult for farmers.

It is very expensive and takes a year and a half to three years to complete, he said.

For this reason, Serbia subsidises all those who want to produce organic food, he said.

The goal is to subsidise them more than we are subsidising those engaging in commercial production, he added.
