BELGRADE - The volume of bilateral trade between Serbia and Belarus could be increased - the results have been improving steadily over the past two years and there is a mutual readiness to boost economic cooperation, a Serbia-Belarus business forum was told Tuesday.

Several agreements on business cooperation were signed at the Belgrade forum, with Serbian Deputy PM and Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Rasim Ljajic and the finance and agriculture ministers, Sinisa Mali and Branislav Nedimovic, also in attendance.

Mihailo Vesovic from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia said the possibilities offered by an agreement signed with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) - which also enables duty-free exports to Belarus - were the key message to Serbian businesspeople.

He said he was not satisfied with the level of bilateral trade, but noted that business forums had begun to produce results.

Vladimir Ulahovich, chairman of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said bilateral economic cooperation focused on the machinery industry, metallurgy and development of cooperation in agriculture, tourism, the IT sector and other areas.

"I am glad that we will today sign agreements that will help our bilateral trade reach up to 500 mln dollars and more," said Ulahovich, urging the development of a long-term plan of cooperation.

The forum brought together 72 Serbian and 22 Belarusian companies.
