BELGRADE - Serbia's ICT sector exports in 2019 were about twice those in 2016, when the Council for Information Entrepreneurship and Innovation Technologies was established, and the final 2019 results are expected to indicate exports worth over 1.4 bln euros, the Council said on Friday at a session chaired by PM Ana Brnabic.

Presenting a report on activities in 2019 and plans for 2020, the Council concluded that last year's trade surplus in the ICT services sector was higher compared to any other goods or services exported by Serbia and contributed around 0.6 pct of GDP growth, or 15 pct of overall growth.

Brnabic noted her government's priority over the past two years had been to promote incentives and create conditions for a good business environment and develop startup entrepreneurship.

She said a new government decree defining the criteria for granting residence permits to foreign founders of innovative startups and investors would be of great significance for improvement of the business environment and further development of this sector.

In this way, Serbia continues to introduce incentives for foreign investors and make its business environment more attractive internationally, she explained.

Building and strengthening the innovation infrastructure, investing in human capital development and creating conditions for a competitive environment of innovative and tech companies were identified as the most significant project areas for 2020.
