Vucic: Linglong plant in Zrenjanin largest-ever greenfield investment in Serbia

ZRENJANIN - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Friday a Linglong tyre factory in Zrenjanin, northeastern Serbia, was by far the largest-ever greenfield investment in the country and that 1,235 Serbian workers had been hired already in the first stage of the plant's operations.

Vucic was speaking at a ceremony that marked the launch of series production at the Chinese-run factory.

"We have never had anything like this in Serbia," Vucic said, noting that the 370,000 sq m plant included a sports centre, restaurants and other facilities for workers.

He said the Linglong investment in Zrenjanin was worth 1 bln dollars and that the factory's exports would reach 200 mln euros in 2024 and 500 mln euros in 2025.

He said that, besides Serbians, the workforce included Chinese workers and that, as part of a new, 645 mln euro investment, the factory would hire 600 more people.
