Serbia signs agreement to purchase its second supercomputer

BELGRADE - The Serbian government Office for IT and eGovernment signed on Friday a 50 mln euro agreement with the French company Bull SAS - a part of the Eviden Group - on a purchase of an HPC computer and development of AI.

The deal is a part of a major agreement between the governments of France and Serbia.

At the signing ceremony, held at the Palace of Serbia, Serbia's caretaker PM Milos Vucevic said the deal demonstrated the government was creating possibilities for scientists to accelerate their work on projects as well as to get better, more substantial support.

The agreement means startup owners and those who are thinking about starting private businesses will be more encouraged, and that those who are already running their own businesses can develop them even more quickly and more successfully, he said.

"That also means we will be able to launch a project to digitalise medical administration," Vucevic said.

He said that, under the arrangement, development of AI tools and applications was due to help Serbia become more successful in various sectors, from energy and transport to development of smart cities.

The fact Serbia is acquiring its second supercomputer shows the country is heading towards development, Vucevic noted.
