BEIJING - Serbian Minister of Internal and External Trade Tomislav Momirovic said on Monday Serbia was committed to boosting its comprehensive strategic partnership with China and to advancing further its economic and trade relations with the Asian nation.

Momirovic said this after a meeting with Chinese Deputy FM Deng Li in Beijing.

"Today's visit to Beijing and the three-day visit to PR China is the first by a Serbian delegation after a three-year break caused by the coronavirus crisis," Momirovic said, adding that he had informed Deng of the performance of Chinese companies operating in the Serbian market, including, above all, Zijin and HBIS.

"These two Chinese companies have transformed the Serbian economy and are major contributors to Serbia's total GDP," Momirovic noted.

Chinese construction companies that are building motorways and high-speed rail lines together with Serbian companies are rebuilding Serbia, Momirovic said in a statement released by his ministry.

"Serbia is oriented towards exporting to the Chinese market, which will be boosted further by the signing of a MoU, whereby we will formally start working on a FTA between our two countries," Momirovic concluded, announcing that the MoU would be signed after his meeting with Chinese Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao on Wednesday.
