BELGRADE - Serbian Deputy PM and Finance Minister Sinisa Mali and the president of the Chinese insurance company Sinosure, Hetai Sheng, on Tuesday signed a MoU that will serve as the basis for defining this year's insurance quotas for projects such as the Belgrade metro, a national stadium and Clean Serbia.

"We have launched major infrastructure projects in Serbia over the past decade. We have connected the country with motorways and we have begun capital projects such as the construction of a Belgrade metro. That is why having a good partner like Sinosure in that work is important to us. This memorandum is important for Serbia and China, our two friendly countries, which cooperate to a great extent, especially in building infrastructure," Mali said after the signing of the MoU at the Palace of Serbia.

Serbia and China have a high volume of bilateral trade and are also in talks on a FTA that will boost economic cooperation further, Mali said.

A large number of Chinese companies are working on construction sites across Serbia, which makes this type of support all the more important, Mali said in a statement released by his Ministry.

Sheng said that, historically, China and Serbia had demonstrated that they were good friends and partners.

We are now also connected by a steely friendship and, under the leadership of our two presidents, a mutually beneficial strategic partnership has been developed, especially since we made more concrete the cooperation through the Belt and Road initiative, he said.

He added that Sino-Serbian cooperation held great potential, especially in infrastructure, and that projects supported by his company met Serbia's infrastructure needs and were significant for advancement of economic cooperation.
