Oracle Cloud centre opens in Kragujevac
KRAGUJEVAC - A regional Oracle Cloud centre was opened at the Kragujevac State Data Centre on Thursday.
The opening ceremony was also attended by Serbian PM Ana Brnabic, Minister of Information and Telecommunications Mihailo Jovanovic and US Ambassador to Serbia Christopher Hill.
"Today is a very important day for Kragujevac, as well as for our entire IT industry, which has become the engine of our economic development in the past two years," Brnabic said.
The Kragujevac centre is the US IT giant's first regional centre in southeastern Europe and will provide cloud services to all of the company's clients and partners across Europe and worldwide.
"Thanks to the opening of this centre, we already have discussions arranged for today with other companies that are interested in perhaps opening similar centres here in Kragujevac and providing such services here in Serbia," Brnabic said.
She noted that an investment in developing a 56,000 sq m innovation district that would include a science and technology park as well as a national information security centre and space for new innovation startups was the next important step in a bid to strengthen Kragujevac.
She added that this would also help create new jobs.
Brnabic said the investment would be worth a total 120 mln euros and that phased construction of the district would begin next year.
