NOVI SAD - Schneider Electric is a key company for the entire digitalisation process in Serbia, Serbian PM Ana Brnabic said at the opening of the firm's new building in Novi Sad on Friday.

Brnabic said Serbia could become a research and development hub for the world's largest companies.

"We always use your R&D centre (as a reference) when we talk to investors. It best indicates the amount of talent and knowledge we have in Serbia and it is a reference for all other companies to muster the courage to come and open their own development centres here. Thanks to you, Serbia's ICT services exports are growing every year, and you are one of the companies that are the leaders in that sense," Brnabic told Schneider Electric representatives.

French Ambassador to Serbia Pierre Cochard said he was proud the investment by the French company would be crucial for development of the quality of life in Serbia.

He said the opening of the high-tech, energy-efficient building was a successful combination of Serbian technological know-how and Schneider Electric's global leadership in digital transformation.

Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic said Schneider Electric operations would help to implement a modern and efficient power grid in Serbia.

"That is extremely important as software made by Schneider Electric in Serbia can be implemented in our power grid to make it more reliable and more efficient so that we have fewer anomalies and reduce grid losses," Djedovic said.

Schneider Electric's new InGrid building is partly powered by a solar power plant installed on its rooftop.
