BELGRADE - Belgrade Mayor Aleksandar Sapic said on Monday a project to build a pedestrian and cycle bridge between New Belgrade and Ada Ciganlija would go ahead despite criticism by local associations and that construction works were slated to begin at the end of 2023 or in early 2024.
"The money for the project has been set aside, and if we complete it by the end of next year, we will start building the bridge either at the end of next year or at the beginning of 2024," Sapic told a press conference at the Old Palace, in response to a reporter's question whether the city authorities would give up on the project following opposition by New Belgrade associations that have said the construction of the bridge would "endanger traffic and cause congestion."
Sapic said the estimates were that the bridge would take about a year to complete.
