BELGRADE - Serbian PM Ana Brnabic said on Thursday not all construction projects could or should be financed by the state budget and that, in some cases, funds obtained from loans were the better solution.
Brnabic said this in the Serbian parliament, in response to remarks by some MPs that loans currently being debated by the legislature are pushing Serbia into debt slavery and that, instead, construction projects could also be funded by the state budget.
"The budget of the republic is like a household budget. If a household has good income, why would it not purchase a flat on a loan, rather than wait until it has accumulated all the money it needs to buy the flat?" Brnabic asked.
Construction projects are funded by the budget when that is the better solution - when something cannot wait or when, for instance, a tender for documentation takes too long, but not everything can be built using money from the state budget, she said.
