DOHA - The chambers of commerce of Serbia and Qatar will set up a Serbia-Qatar business council in Doha next March, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia (PKS) announced on Friday.

This was agreed at a Doha meeting between PKS President Marko Cadez and the first vice-president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Qatar, Mohamed Bin Ahmed Twar Al Kuwari.

Cadez and Al Kuwari noted that bilateral economic cooperation was far behind realistic possibilities and that the two chambers would focus on boosting business ties, the PKS said in a statement.

They said the energy, IT and food industries - especially the dairy sector - held great potential for cooperation.

They agreed for a Serbian business delegation to visit Qatar in March 2023, when the joint business council will also hold a constitutive session.

After the visit, Qatari businesspeople are expected to come to Serbia.

While in Doha, Cadez also spoke with Mubarak Al-Sahouti, vice president at Hassad Food Company, which is in charge of quality control of food marketed in Qatar.

Al-Sahouti, whose company will be a member of the Serbia-Qatar business council, said there was great interest in investing in food production in Serbia.

Cadez also met with representatives of the Serbian construction company Energoprojekt, who briefed him on water supply and electrification projects the firm is involved in in Qatar.
