BELGRADE - Serbian PM Ana Brnabic met on Tuesday with the president of Italy's Lombardy region, Attilio Fontana, to discuss stepping up and expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

Brnabic noted that Italy was one of Serbia's leading economic partners and that Lombardy was an extremely important partner with which Serbia maintained exceptional cooperation, the Serbian government's press service said in a statement.

She said the IT sector, artificial intelligence, innovation, health care and agriculture were areas that held major potential for boosting the cooperation.

She said a Serbia-Italy innovation forum, hosted by Belgrade on December 5 and 6, was important for expanding cooperation in high technology based on innovation and scientific achievements, as well as for showcasing opportunities for new investments by Italian companies.

Fontana said the meeting with Brnabic reflected the good institutional and economic relations and noted that Italian businesses operating in Serbia were extremely satisfied with the working conditions in the country and the cooperation with Serbian institutions.

He said Lombardy was interested in cooperation on sustainable development and circular economy projects, and added that he hoped the cooperation would be boosted in the future through many joint projects.
