BELGRADE - National Bank of Serbia (NBS) Governor Jorgovanka Tabakovic announced on Monday direct payment transactions between Serbia and Montenegro had been enabled for citizens as well as businesses.

"It is an honour and a great pleasure to announce that, as of today, December 11 2023, it is possible to execute transactions between households and corporates in the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Montenegro directly," Tabakovic said in a statement.

"They are now faster, cheaper and direct because we have established direct payment transactions between Serbia and Montenegro. Regional cooperation is one of the key objectives of the National Bank of Serbia and it is a road we have endeavoured to pave by good agreements and cooperation. Cooperation without trust is not possible, and trust is built and acquired for years and should, therefore, be carefully guarded.

I am happy that we have established intensive and fruitful cooperation with our dear colleagues from the Central Bank of Montenegro and that cooperation between Montenegro and Serbia has intensified in all areas after the meeting of the two presidents – Aleksandar Vucic and Jakov Milatovic," she said.
