Cvetkovic: Serbia regional leader in attracting FDI
BELGRADE - Serbia remains a global leader in foreign investments, which is best indicated by figures showing that it attracted over 30 bln euros of FDI between 2012 and end-2022, more than all other Western Balkan countries combined, Serbian Minister of Economy Slobodan Cvetkovic said on Wednesday.
"FDI in Serbia totalled 4.4 bln euros last year and is expected to even exceed that amount this year," Cvetkovic said at the World in 2024 conference.
He said his ministry was carrying out multi-year investment projects to build new factories and expand existing production capacities to boost employment in the country.
"In 2023, the Ministry of Economy concluded 69 contracts on awarding financial stimuli for projects worth a total 618 mln euros that will provide jobs to almost 7,900 workers. The value of the approved stimuli is over 129 mln euros, and 50 contracts were signed with domestic investors and 19 with foreign investors," Cvetkovic said.
The effect of these contracts is expected to partly become evident as early as in 2024, he said.
