Construction of BIO4 Campus begins in Belgrade
BELGRADE - Construction of the BIO4 Campus, a unique multidisciplinary project due to make Belgrade one of Europe's recognised bioeconomic hubs, began in the Serbian capital on Wednesday.
Preparatory works to build the approx. 30 ha campus began on May 29 and all works are slated for completion in 2026.
The value of the hub is estimated at about 450 mln euros, with 200 mln secured through a Council of Europe Development Bank loan.
The Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovation has said the BIO4 campus was an amalgamation of biomedicine, biotech, bioinformatics and biodiversity and that it was a unique multidisciplinary project in the wider region.
Its future tenants are seven University of Belgrade faculties, nine institutes and the Belgrade Science and Technology Park.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Tuesday the project was important for Serbia.
Previously, PM Ana Brnabic said the campus would bring together 1,400 professors and researchers, 4,000 students and more than 1,000 doctors of science, adding that it would be home to 300 highly sophisticated laboratories.
