BELGRADE - Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic met with EU Ambassador to Serbia Emanuele Giaufret, European Commission (EC) representatives and delegations of several international financial institutions on Thursday.

Djedovic Handanovic noted that the Energy Community had recognised Serbia as a leader in carrying out energy reforms in 2023, her ministry said in a statement.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the European Investment bank, the World Bank, the Council of Europe Development Bank and the German and French development banks KfW and AFD.

The minister also outlined Serbia's plans for the energy sector, which are a part of the A Leap Into The Future - Serbia 2027 programme.

She highlighted the significance of EU support to date and said it had contributed to successful project completion, above all, in development of the power transmission grid and construction of natural gas interconnections.

She said Serbia had a clear plan of necessary investments in the energy sector, also defined by strategic documents including, primarily, starting points for development of energy infrastructure and energy efficiency measures until 2028, with projections until 2030.

"We have also defined the priorities in the sector of power generation, transmission and distribution and energy storage as well as in the oil and gas sector in line with our goals in energy transition and diversification of supply sources. Project implementation is not realistic without sustainable financing, so EU support on the path of green transition and reforming our energy mix towards cleaner energy sources is very significant," Djedovic Handanovic said.
