BELGRADE - Serbia's government council tasked with coordinating activities and measures aimed at promoting GDP growth said on Friday January growth had been at a higher-than-anticipated 3.8 pct and could be expected to grow further in Q1 2024.

The council's session was chaired by PM Ana Brnabic.

The ICT and the business services sectors were the biggest contributors to growth in January, the government said in a statement.

Brnabic noted that the construction, industry, road infrastructure, tourism and the ICT and business services sectors and new markets were key economic areas that were registering growth and should be the focus.

She said the 2024-2027 Leap Into The Future plan envisioned comprehensive development of Serbia, including programmes aimed at improving the citizens' living standards.

Brnabic said maintaining sustainable GDP growth also called for further investments in capital projects.

She said tourism was seeing major growth, chiefly reflected in higher numbers of foreign tourists, and noted that the sector had great potential for growth.
