PARIS - The Serbian government and the French power company EDF signed on Monday in Paris a MoU on establishing a framework for long-term dialogue and cooperation on energy transition and low-carbon technologies.

In the presence of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, the MoU was signed by Serbian Finance Minister Sinisa Mali and EDF Director General Luc Remont.

Previously, Vucic met with EDF executives.

Vucic is on a two-day visit to France at the invitation of President Emmanuel Macron.

The Serbian government adopted the MoU last Friday.

"The memorandum creates conditions for a strategic partnership with the EDF to assess the potential for development of a civilian nuclear programme in Serbia with support for development of qualified personnel and exchange of technical know-how.

The EDF has also expressed interest in cooperation with the Serbian power company EPS on development of new and revitalisation of existing hydropower plants, including those of regional interest, with the aim of ensuring energy security to Serbia by using the best international environmental, technological and practical standards," Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic said at the time.

She said the MoU also envisioned potential cooperation on development of energy storage facilities as well as solutions for efficient use of generated energy.
