ABU DHABI - Serbia's Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic and UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Suhail Al Mazroui on Tuesday agreed to sign a memorandum on cooperation in development of hydrogen as a new fuel and continued cooperation in the field of renewable energy sources.

They said Serbia-UAE cooperation in energy was on an upward trajectory and that sharing experience and expert and technical knowledge regarding the use of hydrogen as a fuel was the next step in advancement of cooperation, the Ministry of Mining and Energy said in a statement.

"Hydrogen is the fuel of the future that will ensure cleaner energy with a smaller environmental impact. The UAE has the knowledge, developed technologies and companies that, based on the friendly relations between our two countries and their leaders, President Aleksandar Vucic and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, are already operating in Serbia in the renewables sector, as well as in the field of green and blue hydrogen as a new fuel in our energy system," Djedovic said.

She noted that utilising the potential of renewables was an important instrument in boosting Serbia's energy security and in accomplishing a vision of climate neutrality as one of the key global challenges.

"The most significant result of Serbia-UAE cooperation to date is the Cibuk 1 wind farm, which produces electricity that can power 113,000 households. This year, we will also begin to build a 150 MW Cibuk 2 (wind farm)," Djedovic said.

Al Mazroui informed Djedovic of the nuclear and renewable energy capacities developed by the UAE and the country's future plans for energy infrastructure development.
