Vucic: MoU with EU on critical raw materials big opportunity for Serbia, region

BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Sunday evening a MoU on critical raw materials signed with the EU last week was excellent and a big opportunity for Serbia as well as the entire region.

It is the opportunity of a generation, Vucic noted in an appearance on a Pink TV talk show.

He said some countries had succeeded in rising from being some of the poorest in the world to being some of the richest thanks to appropriate and responsible decisions by their leaders.

"It is important to make decisions in accordance with the interests of the country, rather than party and personal interests. This is a big opportunity for our country. We have had many missed opportunities, I have no problem with saying that," Vucic said.

He said reports by regional media outlets showed that Serbia had made an excellent move by signing the MoU.

"There was not a single word about the substance and special economic consequences. That alone was sufficient to understand how much that hurt them and how much of a problem they have with it. In a normal region and a normal environment, they would be satisfied because a part of things needs to be outsourced and their companies could work and hire people," Vucic said.
