TEHERAN - Serbian Deputy PM Aleksandar Vulin visited on Tuesday the National Library of Iran in Teheran and a Serbian Corner opened at the institution last year by Tamara Vucic, the wife of the president of Serbia.

That section of the library includes many books by Serbian writers and their English-language editions.

At the entrance to the library, Vulin was welcomed by its Director Alireza Mokhtarpour Ghohroudi.

Vulin noted that it was an honour and a pleasure to be visiting the library, which he said was not only a guardian of tradition but also a foundation of the future and the generations to come.

"The peoples of Serbia and Iran are ancient peoples, as are their cultures. They must cooperate and live. In an era of technology and the digital world, books and the written word seem like a thing of the past. If that is so, then the human civilisation has become outdated, but by preserving books and the written word, we preserve the right to be humans," Vulin said, noting that, whatever artificial intelligence might be like, books would always be representing people.

"Some things will never become outdated. Human feelings, emotions and books, which are the guardians of everything. I hope we will continue to understand each other even though we do not speak in the same language," Vulin said.

He said he was impressed by the size of the library and that some of the books in its collection were older than some states.

As a special envoy of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, Vulin travelled to Teheran for the inaugural ceremony of Iran's new President Masud Pezeshkian.Service Photo Gallery
