Djuric: Serbia has strengthened its position at UNGA session

NEW YORK - Serbian FM Marko Djuric said in New York, where he is attending the 79th UN General Assembly session, that Serbia's attendance at the session had strengthened its position on the global scene and that it had established diplomatic ties with several countries it had previously had no diplomatic communication with.

Speaking to reporters, Djuric said Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic would meet with more than 40 world leaders during the UNGA session in New York, while he would hold dozens of meetings with the FMs of countries around the world.

"At this UNGA session, Serbia has written a small but important part of its diplomatic history by establishing diplomatic relations with several countries we have never had diplomatic communication with. In terms of population size and territory, they are small countries, but also countries that have membership in the UN, UNESCO and other international organisations where every vote is huge and important to us because it is in those organisations that we are also defending our monasteries in Kosovo-Metohija and our sovereignty and territorial integrity, but not only that," Djuric noted.

He said that Serbia had established diplomatic relations with Kiribati and Guyana, an important country in the Caribbean region, as well as with the Marshall Islands, a member of the UN and UNESCO.

Djuric also said Serbia had liberalised its visa regime with several small states and would continue to do so.
