BELGRADE - Serbian FM Marko Djuric met with Vanuatu's Deputy PM and FM Matai Seremaiah Nawalu in Belgrade on Tuesday to discuss bilateral relations and sign a MoU on bilateral consultations between the MFAs of the two countries.

Djuric said the visit by a Vanuatu delegation was a historic one, being the first high-level visit since the establishment of diplomatic ties between Serbia and Vanuatu in 2018.

"We share the same policy and the same human and all other values. We have a balanced view on international relations. Our countries want us to develop at an accelerated pace, focusing on economic and political stability," Djuric said.

Djuric said the discussion with Nawalu had been sincere and friendly, open and substantial, and added that the MoU would contribute to better understanding for Serbia's positions regarding internal and regional affairs, as well as to a better understanding of the challenges facing the people of Vanuatu and the Pacific region.

"Serbia is strongly committed to developing friendly relations with Vanuatu and we are confident the visit will lead to a strengthening of economic cooperation," Djuric noted.

He announced the Vanuatu delegation would visit some of Serbia's top agricultural and scientific institutes and said cooperation in education was underway through the World in Serbia university scholarship programme.

Thanking Djuric for the cordial welcome, Nawalu said cultural differences between the two nations were no obstacle to fruitful cooperation.
