Brnabic meets with Egyptian Senate president
BELGRADE - After a meeting with Egyptian Senate President Abdel-Wahab Abdel-Razeq in Belgrade, Serbian Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic thanked Egypt for its support on all issues that were important for Serbia, as well as for its restraint and respect for Belgrade's position that the Autonomous Province of Kosovo-Metohija is a part of Serbian territory.
Brnabic noted that there was ample space for further advancement of bilateral relations.
She noted that Abdel-Razeq was on a five-day visit to Serbia and that this was a testimony to the close ties between the two countries.
"I am pleased that this visit by the Senate president paves the way for further cooperation and that it follows in the wake of visits at the highest level," Brnabic told a press conference with Abdel-Razeq, noting that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic had hosted the president of Egypt in 2022 and that, among other documents, a FTA had been signed during Vucic's return visit to Egypt.
She noted that strengthening the ties between the two countries was important and that their parliaments, too, must play an important part in that.
Abdel-Razeq said he was pleased to be visiting friendly Serbia and also proud of the bilateral cooperation, which he said he wanted to strengthen.
He said the presidential visits had laid solid foundations for bilateral relations.
He said his visit would lend a new impetus to bilateral parliamentary relations and added that he had last month made a decision on establishment of an association of friendship between the Egyptian Senate and the National Assembly of Serbia.
Abdel-Razeq also said a need for advancement of coordination of bilateral dialogue between Serbian and Egyptian lawmakers had been noted in bilateral discussions with a view to tackling topics and priority issues of mutual interest, such as boosting trade and bilateral cooperation.
