BELGRADE - Serbian FM Marko Djuric met with Beninese FM Shegun Adjadi Bakari on Thursday in Belgrade to discuss advancement of bilateral ties and cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

Djuric said the meeting was historic as Bakari was the first Beninese FM to visit Serbia in almost four decades, the Serbian MFA said in a statement.

Djuric said he was confident Bakari's visit would lead to more intense political dialogue while opening the door to development of overall cooperation and additional deepening of bilateral ties with a view to expanding the network of cooperation and friendships, which he noted Serbia aspired to.

He said the agriculture, trade and ICT sectors represented a particular area for boosting Serbia-Benin economic cooperation.

Djuric noted that the World In Serbia scholarship project for university students from around the world was a major cultural bridge between the two countries.

After the meeting, the ministers signed MoUs between the MFAs of Serbia and Benin on political and diplomatic consultations as well as on diplomatic staff training.
