KOSOVSKA MITROVICA - Srpska lista official Igor Simic said on Wednesday Donald Trump's victory in the US presidential elections had been welcomed by Serbs in the Autonomous Province of Kosovo-Metohija and that they saw Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic's subsequent phone call with Trump as a step forward in tackling the Kosovo-Metohija problem in a way that would take the interests of Serbia and the Serbs into account.

Srpska lista is a political organisation of Kosovo-Metohija Serbs.

Speaking to the RTS, Simic said Trump's victory had inspired hope and optimism among Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija, disappointing ethnic Albanians and, above all, the Pristina regime, which had openly supported Camala Harris.

"Trump's takeover of the administration is awaited with optimism among Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija, who are absolutely aware that there will be no epochal changes all of us would like to see, but that there will be a greater willingness to hear out the Serbs, above all, Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija, to discuss our problems and to resolve them through dialogue," Simic said.

He noted that Vucic's phone call with Trump was no coincidence but a result of hard work and everything the Serbian diplomacy, guided by Vucic's policy, had been doing in the past years.

"The Serbs supported Trump even when he did not win. Loud and clear, Serbs in America supported his candidacy, so it is no wonder Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija saw this call as a step forward in Serbia-US relations, also in terms of resolving the Kosovo-Metohija problem in a way that will take the interests of Serbs and the state of Serbia into account as well," Simic said.
