KOSOVSKA MITROVICA - A Serb man was arrested in northern Kosovska Mitrovica on Friday morning over the May 2023 protests outside the building of the Zvecan municipality in the north of the province.

The man was identified by the so-called Kosovo Police with the initials M D.

His attorney said he had been placed in 48-hour detention and charged with two criminal offences - with allegedly attacking the constitutional order of the so-called Kosovo and attacking an official.

In a statement, the Serbian government Office for Kosovo-Metohija said the arrest of the 28-year-old Kosovska Mitrovica resident over his alleged involvement in the protests was a continuation of Pristina's manhunt against Serbs in the province.

In spite of international guarantees that it would not be arresting Serbs for political dissent, Pristina has arrested a large number of people without any grounds whatsoever - some of them remain incarcerated and many have also been subjected to physical as well as psychological torture, the statement said.

According to Tanjug's sources, the detainee's name is Marko Denic and he has been taken to Pristina for interrogation.
