Brnabic: Fewer than 5,000 people harassing more than six million Serbians
BELGRADE - Serbian Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic on Friday condemned illegal road blockades in Serbian cities, noting that a very small number of people was subjecting other citizens to violence.
At a press conference, Brnabic said fewer than 5,000 people were wreaking havoc and harassing more than six million Serbians, and noted that she would condemn violence on a daily basis while also calling for dialogue.
She showed a photo of a gathering outside the parliament building.
"Here is a photo of what road blockades outside the building of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia look like. You can see 60 people here - not even a hundred, of whom about twenty are MPs, blocking one of largest and most important thoroughfares in the city of Belgrade, harassing thousands of citizens of this city."
She reiterated that nothing was more bizarre than the sight of MPs elected by the people harassing the people by blocking roads and denying them the freedom of movement.
"It is really something that has never been seen anywhere in the world until now," she said.
Condemning calls for a "Romanian scenario" in Serbia and assassination of President Aleksandar Vucic, Brnabic said Serbia had institutions and that such scenarios would not be allowed to materialise.
