BRUSSELS - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic will attend an EU-Western Balkans summit in Brussels on Wednesday.

The summit will be chaired by new European Council President Antonio Costa and also attended by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

Vucic will attend a European People's Party-Western Balkans summit as well.

During a two-day visit to Brussels, he is also due to hold separate meetings with Spanish PM Pedro Sanchez, Luxembourgish PM Luc Frieden and European People's Party President Manfred Weber.

Announcing the EU-Western Balkans summit, the European Council has said it was an opportunity to continue a momentum for a strategic partnership between the EU and the region.

A joint declaration to be adopted at the summit will confirm full and unequivocal commitment to the perspective of EU membership for the Western Balkans and send a message that the region's future is in the EU.

A draft of the declaration, seen by Tanjug, underlines that the EU is a geostrategic investment in peace, security, stability and prosperity.
