BELGRADE - Serbian PM Milos Vucevic said on Friday he had been shocked to see video footage showing the leader of the opposition Freedom and Justice Party Dragan Djilas attacking activists of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party.

"It is really unbelievable that a president of a party, a former mayor should attack activists of other parties who were doing what activists of all parties do - putting up posters, which is a part of party activism, not only in Serbia, but across Europe," Vucevic told Tanjug.

"It was not just verbal violence or a verbal altercation, but ended in a physical conflict in which Djilas showed his true face, the one we have been able to see in the parliament. It is what we have been able to hear and see when it comes to some of his private events and his relationship with a part of his family," Vucevic said.

Vucevic said it was now evident that Djilas wanted to get into physical conflicts with all those whose opinions differed from his own.

"Practically, they are making us legitimate targets, so someone who might be mentally unstable might perceive us as ones who are naturally designated as people who should be physically attacked, or liquidated. With everything he has done, Djilas has not only demonstrated his true face, but also the way he sees Serbia - as a country where citizens should be wishing for a civil war," Vucevic said.

He noted that it could be concluded that Dragan Djilas was again trying to make himself the epicentre of protests in the country and to take away the initiative from students and impose himself as the one setting the pace of demands, gatherings and opposition activities.
