BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Sunday evening there might be elections in Serbia but that he would never let a transitional government be formed in the country.
"There may be elections but there will never be a transitional government," Vucic said on a Pink TV talk show.
The people do not want the opposition, Vucic said, adding that he would not let opposition politicians take power in the streets.
He added that, after everything the current administration had achieved during its 12 years in power, he would not cede power to "the worst people in Serbia".
"Even (PM) Milos Vucevic, or anyone else, will not be able to make a decision in favour of a transitional government because there will always be a sufficient majority in the parliament that will listen to its former president (of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party). I am telling you, I have only one principle - I will not let the worst scum govern Serbia. They can govern it when they win in elections - and they never will," Vucic said.
Speaking about ongoing student protests in the country and the support they have received from the region, Vucic said Croatia, Milo Djukanovic, Albin Kurti and many in Sarajevo had an interest in a toppling of the Serbian authorities.
He said Croatian intelligence agencies were influencing the protests at NGO level, with direct or indirect support from Western intelligence agencies in Europe as well as the USA.
He said a large part of the students participating in the protests were good children who were patriots.
"There is a large number of children who are patriotic and who see their moment, they are full of energy, ambition and rebelliousness, they want to change the world, their country, they want to have a say. That is a thing that I will say is excellent, it is good for our future. We have active young people and that will produce good results," Vucic said.
