BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic met with the UK's Minister of State for Europe, North America and Overseas Territories Stephen Doughty in Belgrade on Wednesday to discuss the current situation in Kosovo-Metohija and inform him of the conditions the Serb population lived in the province, and called on the UK to condemn Pristina's unilateral moves.
"A good discussion with Stephen Doughty, focusing on strengthening Serbia-UK bilateral relations. We discussed various aspects of cooperation, including the economy, trade, cyber security and migration," Vucic wrote in an Instagram post.
He said the economy was the best way of connecting the two countries and informed Doughty of progress made by Serbia when it comes to economic growth and a favourable business environment, which he noted was especially important for attracting foreign investments.
"We also discussed the current situation in Kosovo-Metohija, and I informed the minister in detail of the almost impossible living conditions for the Serbs and called on the UK to show more understanding for this issue through support for dialogue and by condemning Pristina's unilateral moves. We also touched upon security challenges in the wider regional context, we discussed Serbia's European path, and I also extended an invitation to PM Keir Starmer to visit Serbia so that we continue discussions about further strengthening of the traditionally good relations between the two countries," Vucic also wrote in the post.
