BELGRADE - Serbia's caretaker PM Milos Vucevic said on Thursday evening the ruling coalition was closer to a decision to form a new government but noted that calling early elections was not ruled out either and that a final decision on the matter would be made in about ten days.
Speaking to Euronews TV, Vucevic said he would like his decision to resign irrevocably to help calm tensions in society and demonstrate that there was a sense of responsibility in politics.
"I think we are closer to a new government, but I cannot rule out elections. Both options are on the table," he said.
Vucevic said his resignation was not aimed at triggering elections and noted that not everyone in the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) was happy with his decision.
"Not everyone thinks I needed to resign. There was no salvo of applause in the SNS," he said.
