Dacic refutes Sandu statement, orders ambassador to seek clarification
BELGRADE - Serbian FM Ivica Dacic has refuted in the strongest terms a statement by Moldovan President Maia Sandu about potential involvement of Serbian citizens in subversive actions aimed at destabilising Moldova, according to alleged Ukrainian information about Russian plans.
"We demand that Moldovan authorities urgently send us any information in their possession because we have never received such notification from Moldova to date," Dacic said in a statement to Tanjug on Monday evening.
He added that there were many examples of fake news in the international scene but that Belgrade would not allow that to damage the reputation and interests of Serbia and the friendly relations between Serbia and Moldova.
"I have ordered our ambassador to Chisinau to urgently seek clarification for such a statement by the Moldovan president at the Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as that they urgently send us all information about who the people suspected as potential participants of such violent actions are," Dacic said.
Dacic noted that, under Serbian legislation, any involvement by Serbian citizens in armed conflicts abroad was a criminal offence.
