BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Thursday evening that, speaking about USAID activities, US President Donald Trump had directly mentioned Serbia as a place where "they wanted a political change of government."
"Someone was just waiting for more tragedies while preparing various types of scenarios for some new riots and new blows to the state. That is nothing new, and you can see that from the words of President Donald Trump. Donald Trump directly mentioned Serbia yesterday, the US president directly mentioned Serbia as a place where they - those who were giving American money to topple the government - wanted a political change of government," Vucic told Insajder TV in an interview.
He said there was no doubt funding for absurd projects had been a smokescreen for money provided to topple the government.
Responding to the interview host's comment that there was plenty of video footage showing him and the entire government thanking USAID for project funding, Vucic said he was not denying that and noted that, "when someone gives you 1,000 euros, you have to be polite and say 'Thank you.'"
"They equipped our courts with various magnetoscopic devices, microphones and many other things - just to let people know where that money has gone to," Vucic said.
He noted that USAID had disbursed 400 mln dollars for Serbia in the past four years and that, of that, "less than 10 mln went to the government."
"It all went to the non-government sector," Vucic added.
