BELGRADE - Serbian FM Marko Djuric met with the EU special envoy for the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue Peter Sorensen on Tuesday, noting that there has been no progress in the dialogue for years now.
The first precondition for reviving the dialogue is establishment of trust among all parties in the process, Djuric said.
Noting that Belgrade supports the work of the EU special envoy, Djuric underscored that establishment of a Community of Serb Municipalities and delivering on other commitments under the Brussels Agreement was a key factor for normalisation of relations, the Serbian MFA said in a statement.
Djuric said unilateral moves by the Kurti regime in the past several years had led Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija into an extremely difficult position, eroding the already deteriorated relations between the ethnic Albanian and non-Albanian populations.
In view of this, Belgrade will continue to provide support to Serbs in the Autonomous Province of Kosovo-Metohija, advocating respect for their fundamental rights, some of which are also guaranteed by Pristina's own regulations, Djuric said.
Pointing out that the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue also has a broader political context, Djuric said a stronger EU role was needed in the coming period to ensure a continuation of dialogue and the finding of compromise solutions.
