BELGRADE - Serbian FM Marko Djuric on Wednesday received a delegation of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Georgian parliament, led by Committee President Nikoloz Samkharadze, and thanked Georgia for its "consistent respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia."
The delegation is on a several-day visit to Serbia.
Djuric also said that Serbia "unequivocally supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia," the Serbian MFA said in a statement.
"Djuric emphasised that the issue of Kosovo and Metohija is not only a matter of territory, but also of national identity, and that Belgrade will continue to be a constructive party in the dialogue with Pristina.
On the other hand, Djuric stressed that Belgrade will continue to insist on the implementation of previously agreed-upon agreements as mechanisms to ensure the political, economic, and other rights of Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija.
According to the Serbian Foreign Minister, Serbia remains committed to preserving peace and stability in the region, which is a fundamental precondition for further economic and overall development of the Western Balkans," the statement said.
"Noting the traditionally friendly and close ties with Georgia, Djuric emphasised that Serbia is committed to enhancing bilateral cooperation in all areas of mutual interest.
He pointed out that Serbia and Georgia share strong political relations, united by many similarities in tradition, values, culture, and the mentality of their peoples.
Congratulating Georgia on its economic successes in recent years, Djuric noted that Serbia has also doubled its GDP over the past decade and that there is significant potential for strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the economic sector," the statement also said.
