BELGRADE - Serbia was born out of struggle and we are all descendants of war veterans and today, in a time when everyone is increasingly insistent on differences, Serbia is clearly military neutral and invests more in promotion of dialogue, peace and stability, Serbian Minister of Labour, Employment and Veteran and Social Affairs Nikola Selakovic said before a World Veterans Federation (WVF) General Assembly meeting on Monday.

"We are all descendants of veterans and it is a great honour and pleasure the assembly is being held in Belgrade," Selakovic said, adding that the international event was hosted by SUBNOR - an association of WWII veterans - under the patronage of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.

Serbia is proud of its history and the fact it has always been on the right side of history, he said.

He said consistent internal and foreign policies had put forward Serbia as the host of the federation's General Assembly and Congress meeting.

He recalled that Belgrade had hosted a WVF General Assembly meeting in 1951.

Selakovic also announced that care and protection of disabled war veterans would remain high on the agenda of his ministry and that due attention would be dedicated to the population of war veterans.
