ROME - Serbian Armed Forces Chief of General Staff Gen Milan Mojsilovic is on an official visit to Italy at the invitation of his Italian counterpart Adm Giuseppe Cavo Dragone.

The visit begun with a ceremonial reception for a Serbian Armed Forces delegation, followed by a meeting between Mojsilovic and Cavo Dragone and official discussions between Serbian and Italian military delegations in the Italian army general staff building in Rome, the Serbian Defence Ministry said in a statement.

They discussed the reaches and perspectives of development of bilateral military cooperation across a broad spectrum of areas of mutual interest, from joint participation in peacekeeping operations to training and exercises and bilateral cooperation in military education and military-economic cooperation.

They also discussed the security situation in the region and worldwide and the engagement of Italian troops in the KFOR mission.

They noted that bilateral military cooperation was developed, intensive and substantial, and characterised by steady advancement in terms of quantity and quality, and said they expected substantial and multi-faceted development of military-to-military cooperation and overall defence relations to be continued in the period to come.

Commenting on joint participation in a peacekeeping mission in Lebanon - where a Serbian Armed Forces platoon has since 2014 been securing a base used by Italian peacekeepers - they said they were pleased with the excellent cooperation and the high level of professionalism of Serbian and Italian troops.

Mojsilovic visited the Italian army's Joint Operations Command, the Lancieri di Montebello regiment, the Military Intelligence Brigade and the Network Operations Command and will also visit the aerospace firm Leonardo, where the Serbian Armed Forces delegation will be given a presentation of the company's production range of arms and military equipment, the statement said.
