Brnabic meets with Ziadeh, voices concern over security of Serbs
BELGRADE - Serbian PM Ana Brnabic met with UNMIK head Caroline Ziadeh on Monday, voicing great concern over the security of Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija, who she said were constantly being targeted by provocations from Pristina.
Brnabic pointed out that Serbian Orthodox churches and cemeteries were continuously being destroyed and that the perpetrators were sending a clear message that Serbs are undesirable in Kosovo-Metohija, the Serbian government's press office said in a statement.
Ziadeh said the objective was to maintain peace and stability in Kosovo-Metohija and especially commended the Open Balkan initiative as an opportunity for better economic ties in the region.
Brnabic and Ziadeh also discussed the UN secretary-general's latest report on the work of UNMIK - to be presented at a UN Security Council session on April 27 - as well as the situation in Kosovo-Metohija, the position of Serbs and other non-Albanians there and the necessity of implementing the Brussels Agreement.
Brnabic noted that Pristina had been failing to implement the Brussels Agreement for a full ten years.
She said full implementation of the Brussels Agreement and establishment of a Community of Serb Municipalities were necessary to enable Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija to feel safer.
Brnabic also said the Open Balkan format was an excellent opportunity to connect the entire Balkans with a view to achieving economic prosperity and faster movement of people and goods.
