BELGRADE - Serbian Deputy PM and Defence Minister Milos Vucevic met with UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix and UNSG Special Representative and UNMIK Head Caroline Ziadeh on Tuesday.
Vucevic noted that Serbia devoted special attention to cooperation with the UN, especially in the field of multinational operations, where he said engagement by Serbian Armed Forces (SAF) troops was making a very significant contribution to maintaining world peace, the Ministry of Defence said in a statement.
He highlighted the engagement of a Level 2+ military hospital in the UN's MINUSCA mission in the Central African Republic, and added that Serbia was facing certain problems but striving to maintain the necessary capacities that met the mission's requirements.
He said Serbia was preparing proposals of new contributions that could be presented during an October 5-6 UN ministerial meeting on peace operations in Ghana, especially when it comes to organising training for peace operations at the corresponding centre of the Operations Administration of the SAF General Staff.
Lacroix stressed that he was very pleased with the UN's cooperation with Serbia to date, and noted Serbia's contribution to maintaining world peace through SAF engagement in multinational operations, above all, in the MINUSCA mission in the Central African Republic and the UNIFIL mission in Lebanon, the statement also said.
