Brnabic: I am ready to resign, elections to be held by end-year
BELGRADE - Serbian PM Ana Brnabic said on Wednesday evening she was ready to resign at any time and that the opposition could count on that.
At a press conference with President Aleksandar Vucic, Brnabic said elections were the only way out of the current situation after the opposition had been ignoring Vucic's call to dialogue for 12 days and had said coming to discussions would be considered treason.
"As PM, I am ready to resign at any time. Having the opportunity to perform that duty has been the greatest honour and pleasure for me. I am happy I have had the opportunity to work for my country and to give my best. But certainly, at this time, when the society is in a crisis like this one, dialogue is the only way to overcome it, and they do not want dialogue, unfortunately. So you can count on having my resignation on the table," she said.
She said this opened up possibilities for technical discussions.
"I have also spoken with Milos Vucevic as president of the Serbian Progressive Party, the largest party in the country. I said holding parliamentary elections by the end of the year was the only way to solve the crisis. I want to say that elections are the only way of coming to power in democratic societies," Brnabic said.
