BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Wednesday evening Serbia would always stand with its people in Kosovo-Metohija and would never allow an expulsion of Serbs from the province, but noted that "we must act in the wisest and the most intelligent manner, always and at all times."

"Our country must not come under sanctions. It can if they are completely unjustified, but we must in no way do anything to contribute to that. We must protect entire Serbia and its progress," Vucic said in an appearance on the RTS.

Speaking about Wednesday's arrest of three officers of the so-called Kosovo Police deep inside the territory of central Serbia, Vucic said they might not have known where they had been at the time of the arrest, but that they might also have had more serious plans.

"They might have had more serious plans because we found some lists of Serbs. That is what I was talking about, that they had certain information and that they were waiting for some people, be it to assassinate or arrest them - it is all the same. That is absolutely inappropriate," Vucic said.

He said the incursion must be qualified as a terrorist act.

The Serbian police did not fire a single bullet during the arrest and Serbia acted in a responsible and serious manner, "in a way a sovereign state does," Vucic noted.

A difficult struggle and tough times are ahead but we must endure all that terror and preserve peace and security, and the people must remain united, he said.
