BELGRADE - The head of the Serbian parliamentary committee on Kosovo-Metohija Milovan Drecun said on Friday President Aleksandar Vucic's latest public address demonstrated that the situation in Kosovo-Metohija was entering a dramatic stage of developments and that there was no indication Pristina would give up on unilateral moves.

Speaking to the RTS, Drecun said Thursday's incursion into central Serbia by Pristina's police showed that Kfor was not performing its mandate as it must not allow anything like that to happen.

They should have removed Pristina's armed formations far from the administrative line, Drecun said, adding that Pristina was acting recklessly and provoking "extremely serious incidents."

"Our police officers could have opened fire. It (the incursion) is a breach of all existing agreements, including UNSCR 1244 and the Military Technical Agreement," Drecun said.

Commenting on Vucic's announcement that he will request a discussion with NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg and then also an urgent UN Security Council session, Drecun said some results should be expected as, under UNSCR 1244, the UNSC was obliged to protect the resolution and implement measures accordingly.

However, he noted that it was quite unrealistic to expect the US, the UK and France to change their positions and question their support to Pristina.

"In spite of all the verbal warnings and threats to Albin Kurti over the violent unilateral actions he is taking, we see that the situation is not calming down," Drecun noted.

"Pristina is undertaking activities that demonstrate that they are preparing to escalate the situation further in the period to come, and they really do not seem to care about any measures the EU and the US are purportedly taking against Pristina. It is simply unbelievable that those measures are not producing the expected result," he said.

Drecun said the UN was the only place to solve the Kosovo-Metohija issue.

"All the talk about the Quint and international conferences is about unilateral moves, which cannot lead to the problems in Kosovo-Metohija being resolved," he noted.
