CAIRO - Serbian Deputy PM and Defence Minister Milos Vucevic began an official visit to Egypt on Monday with a meeting with the country's Minister of Defence and Military Production Gen Mohamed Zaki.

The parties noted that Serbia-Egypt cooperation was seeing an upward trend that was also a result of last year's meeting between Presidents Aleksandar Vucic and Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in Serbia, the Serbian Ministry of Defence said in a statement.

Vucevic said his visit was another confirmation of the good cooperation between Serbia and Egypt and their defence ministries, and expressed a commitment to further development and advancement of relations in the field of military technology, military education and military-to-military cooperation.

Vucevic said maintaining the status of a militarily neutral country without joining any of the existing military and political organisations was Serbia long-term commitment.

At the same time, that does not mean a lack of willingness to advance cooperation with all relevant actors in international relations, in particular in defence and security, he added.

Vucevic also took the opportunity to invite Zaki to the Partner 2023 international arms expo, to be held in Belgrade in September.

Vucevic and Zaki discussed the regional and global security situation.

Zaki noted the importance of continuing and advancing the bilateral defence cooperation and highlighted cooperation in military technology and military-to-military cooperation.

Vucevic also visited the Egyptian defence industry's combat vehicle manufacturing plant in Cairo and laid wreaths at the Unknown Soldier Memorial and the grave of former Egyptian president Anwar El-Sadat.
