Vucic: I will never sign independence of Kosovo

BELGRADE - In response to opposition claims, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Thursday he would never sign an independence of the so-called Kosovo.

In a video posted on his buducnostsrbijeav Instagram account, Vucic said all sorts of things - including, to a considerable extent, untruths and lies - could be heard in every election campaign but that, as president of Serbia, he especially needed to react to a lie that had nothing to do with him as president or the bloc of political parties he personally supported, but with the state and the basic postulates Serbia rested upon.

"Just like they said in the previous election campaign that they were against sanctions on Russia and that I would personally impose them after April 3, which I did not do after those elections while, to this day, they advocate sanctions against Russia, they have now made it up that I am ready to sign an independence of Kosovo as soon as the elections are over," Vucic said.

He noted that he wanted the citizens of Serbia to know the claim was a notorious lie.

"As an honourable man, and not only that, but also as a man who respects the constitution of his country and the laws of his country and who loves his people in Kosovo-Metohija more than everything and will always adhere to the letter of the law and his oath on the Gospel of Miroslav, I want to tell you that that is a notorious lie," Vucic said.

"They cannot destroy Serbia with lies, and that is why I am certain work and results will always win," Vucic added.
